Mariam Abdi Noor is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at Aarhus University Hospital. Through her PhD project, she has developed a small ring that helps patients with aortic insufficiency. Aortic insufficiency is a condition in which the valve between the left ventricle of the heart and the main artery cannot close completely. Mariam Abdi Noor’s invention can change the way we do cardiovascular surgery
“At first the commercial lingo and the idea of forming a business scared me. But as I dived into it, I discovered that entrepreneurship is a subject area as any other. I just have to master it – as I have done with so many other subjects as a researcher. When I realized that, some of the fear lifted – and I dived in head first,” says Mariam Abdi Noor. The journey of Aorticphlex and founder Mariam Abdi Noor is the story of visionary research, a diverse funding journey which have not ended yet and an unexpected attraction to the freedom and variation the life as an entrepreneur can provide. It is also the story of a Postdoc venturing into the world of business – and to her own surprise – loving every moment of it. On Wednesday 22nd of November Mariam Abdi Noor will share her journey.
