New hub for welfare technology in Aarhus
'Velfærdsteknolgiens hus' is set to open in 2027.
Aarhus Municipality has acquired a new property in Skejby, which will serve as the foundation for Velfærdsteknologiens Hus (House of Welfare Technology). This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between hospitals, educational institutions, and businesses while making it easier for citizens to access the right assistive technologies.
The goal with Velfærdsteknologiens Hus is to ensure that citizens in Aarhus receive the best possible support while also addressing workforce challenges in the care sector. Professionals will be responsible for testing and implementing new technologies, with citizens actively involved in the process. This will create stronger links between development, testing, and implementation and is expected to be ready by September 2027.
Velfærdsteknologiens Hus will play a key role in improving working conditions in the care sector and could become a part of the solution to the recruitment challenges the municipalities are facing with elderly care.
The vision for the house was approved as part of the 2025 municipal budget agreement, where a majority of the city council backed the ambition to create a hub that fosters innovation through collaboration with hospitals, healthcare education programs, researchers, and welfare technology companies.
"With Velfærdsteknologiens Hus, we are creating a unique environment that will make a real difference for Aarhus residents while also becoming a national beacon for welfare technology—an inspiration for municipalities across the country," says Christian Budde, Alderman for Health and Care in Aarhus.
Velfædsteknologiens hus has seven key focus areas:

- Supporting public-private innovation and collaboration – strengthening partnerships between sectors.
